Maternal heritage

I blogged previously about my Y-chromosome results from the Genographic Project over at National Geographic. I have now gotten back my mitochondrial results. I have the full report posted here.

These results are much less surprising. My great, great, ..., great grandmother was part of the H group, which is present mostly in western Europe. This sits nicely with the family history we can document that goes back to England. Here is the full maternal journey of my family, from 150,000 to 10,000 years ago:
